Liverpool have been given the green light to make a bid for Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez this summer as they seek to improve their goal threat up front.

The Reds have been linked with a whole host of big names up front, with Brendan Rodgers’ side struggling since the departure of Luis Suarez last year, with Daniel Sturridge’s absence through injury also a big concern.

Gomez himself has struggled with fitness during his time in Serie A, but his amazing record during his time with Bayern Munich still makes him a top class centre-forward and one who could be great for Liverpool if he moves on the cheap.

According to the Metro, the 29-year-old is up for sale this summer, and this has put Liverpool on alert, with players like Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini on their way out.
