20) Park Chu-young

With just one Premier League appearance for Arsenal, Park Chu-young truly goes down as one of the strangest signings of all time, looking woefully out of his depth in loan spells at Celta Vigo and Watford. How on earth did the Gunners end up signing this guy?

19) Andre Santos

An overweight and error-prone left-back, Andre Santos was another very poor buy from Arsenal in the summer of 2011, and he didn’t last long at the Emirates Stadium.

18) Yaya Sanogo

A striker who can’t score, Yaya Sanogo is the latest overrated Frenchman to be given far too many chances by Arsene Wenger, and he has since flopped on loan at Crystal Palace.

17) Kim Kallstrom

A short-term loan signing, Kim Kallstrom had a decent reputation before joining Arsenal, but didn’t do a great deal in his time with the club before returning to Spartak Moscow.

16) Mathieu Flamini

A bit of a desperate signing on a free, Mathieu Flamini is a decent squad player but little more, and the club should really be aiming higher.

15) Krystian Bielik

An exciting Polish youngster who should be one for the future, Krystian Bielik joined Arsenal in January but has not yet made an impact on the first-team.

14) Danny Welbeck

A risky signing at £16m that has not yet paid off, former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck only managed four Premier League goals in a disappointing first season in north London.

13) Mathieu Debuchy

Terribly injury prone and with little to show in the games that he did play, Mathieu Debuchy has not really impressed yet since joining the Gunners last summer.

12) Calum Chambers

A decent young player who should improve, Calum Chambers had a mixed first season at the Emirates Stadium after joining from Southampton.

11) Gabriel Paulista

Despite limited appearances, Gabriel Paulista showed some promise in the games he did play for Arsenal in 2014/15, having joined from Villarreal in January.

10) Lukas Podolski

A player with a big reputation prior to joining Arsenal, it’s fair to say Lukas Podolski never really hit the heights he is capable of, though he had a strong first season with the Gunners, including one or two wondergoals with that left foot.

9) Mikel Arteta

No longer guaranteed a place, but Mikel Arteta was just what Arsenal needed when Cesc Fabregas left in 2011, and his fine displays in midfield later saw him named club captain.

8) Per Mertesacker

A player who gets some stick, Per Mertesacker has actually been a great signing for Arsenal, with far too many focusing on the occasional slip-up from the solid German defender.

7) Nacho Monreal

A fine signing at left-back, Nacho Monreal joined from Malaga in 2013 and has never really let the club down, becoming more of a regular in the side last season.

6) David Ospina

A very good goalkeeper who is unfortunate to be losing his place now after Cech’s arrival, David Ospina put in some fine performances in his first season for Arsenal.

5) Olivier Giroud

Signed from Montpellier in 2012, Olivier Giroud took some time to settle, but is now one of the best penalty-box poachers in the Premier League, despite also being harshly criticised all too often.

4) Petr Cech

One of the best goalkeepers in the world, Petr Cech joins from Chelsea this summer and, although he hasn’t played yet, is one of the club’s most exciting signings in recent years.

3) Mesut Ozil

Arsenal’s record signing, Mesut Ozil has done well enough for the Gunners but should still be aiming to improve if he is to reach the levels he reached for Real Madrid.

2) Santi Cazorla

An excellent playmaker, Santi Cazorla has been a terrific buy for Arsenal since he joined from Malaga in 2012, setting instantly to become one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League.

1) Alexis Sanchez

An awesome buy, Alexis Sanchez looks a bargain after joining for £35m from Barcelona, hitting 25 goals in his first season to become one of the signings of last summer by any club.
