The USA embassy have submitted a formal request that the seven FIFA officials arrested in May are extradited from Switzerland, according to reports.

Arrest warrants were issued back on the 20th of May, with seven members of the world football governing body under investigation for accepting illegal bribes in exchange for votes and various media rights relating to football tournaments in the US and Latin America.

Swiss police are expected to give the seven FIFA officials a special hearing and come to a decision on whether or not to extradite them in the coming weeks.

FIFA have long been associated with corruption at various levels, with president Sepp Blatter particularly unpopular and likely to step down from his position later this year.
