20) Iago Aspas

Arguably the player who has looked most out of his depth in a Liverpool shirt in recent times, Iago Aspas was not particularly expensive, but looked an uninspiring signing to begin with, manging just one goal for the club in total.

19) Dejan Lovren

A terrible waste of money, Dejan Lovren has not lived up to his Southampton form at all since joining the Reds for £20m last summer.

18) Luis Alberto

A youngster with some promise, but none that we’ve seen so far as a Liverpool player, though in fairness he’s barely made the team.

17) Javier Manquillo

A strange signing on a two-year loan, Jacvier Manquillo may now see that deal cut short after an underwhelming first season at Anfield.

16) Adam Bogdan

Ok, he’s not played for Liverpool yet, but with the club arguably in need of a replacement for Simon Mignolet, this player who finished 17th in the Championship with Bolton last season is surely not the answer and shows a real lack of ambition.

15) Mario Balotelli

With just one Premier League goal, Mario Balotelli is another absolutely awful signing, and could arguably come even lower on this list given the expectation surrounding his move.

14) Rickie Lambert

Another waste of money up front, it’s fair to say Brendan Rodgers did a dreadful job of attempting to replace Luis Suarez last summer.

13) Tiago Ilori

A defender who has never been used, it looks like Tiago Ilori doesn’t have much of a future on Merseyside, though maybe the club should try playing him after buying him.

12) Kolo Toure

A defender well past his best now, Kolo Toure has been another unambitious signing done on the cheap by Liverpool.

11) Simon Mignolet

A decent goalkeeper, but not one who’s really performed at his best since moving to Liverpool, and one who should probably be upgraded on if the Reds are to be serious title challengers.

10) Joe Gomez

A promising youngster, it’s hard to know if Joe Gomez will go straight into the Liverpool first-team, but could be one for the future.

9) Divock Origi

Yet to play for Liverpool, Divock Origi has shown plenty of potential, though his final season with Lille was not too impressive.

8) Lazar Markovic

A player who had an up-and-down first season at Liverpool, it is not yet clear what Lazar Markovic’s best position is.

7) Alberto Moreno

Another inconsistent performer, Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno at least showed some strong performances and plenty of potential after joining from Sevilla.

6) Adam Lallana

A classy midfielder, Adam Lallana has done well when fit, but needs to play more often next season to really reach the fine form he showed at Southampton.

5) Danny Ings

Not the most inspiring summer signing, but Danny Ings caught the eye at Burnley and could be a useful squad player for Rodgers’ side next season.

4) Emre Can

A highly promising young midfielder who also operates well in a number of defensive roles, Emre Can has proven a very astute buy by the Merseysiders.

3) Nathaniel Clyne

A player only signed this week, Nathaniel Clyne should be a top signing for Liverpool if he plays like he did for Southampton.

2) James Milner

A smart signing on a free, James Milner will bring versatility and experience to this Reds squad for next season.

1) Roberto Firmino

Maybe a risky purchase at £29m, but Roberto Firmino looks the real deal after some eye-catching performances at old club Hoffenheim and for the Brazilian national team. Many feel he is potentially better than Philippe Coutinho, and the 23-year-old has to go down as one of this summer’s most exciting signings.
