The 29-year-old is one of the best defenders in the world, and as such could be about to force some of the Red Devils’ most used players out of the squad…

6) Jonny Evans

The 27-year-old is already being offered to Everton in return for Seamus Coleman according the Daily Mirror. This means his future is in doubt whatever happens, but if another centre-back were to arrive at Old Trafford it would surely be the final nail in the coffin.

5) Luke Shaw

Were Ramos to join it could allow Louis van Gaal to play Marcos Rojo at left-back, which was where he starred for Argentina at the 2014 World Cup. With Shaw already being criticised for his fitness by the Dutchman, it could spell the end of the highly priced England international.

4) Chris Smalling

Although the 25-year-old seemed to work his way in to van Gaal’s plans during the last campaign, his place in the squad is still perilous. Another defender could at the very least push him on to the substitutes’ bench.

3) Tyler Blackett

Used a lot during the first part of the season as injuries stretched the squad, but failed to continue this involvement after Christmas. At 21-years-old the player may need to move to get first team football and develop his game if Ramos arrives.

2) Rafael

Just nine appearances last time round despite many criticising his replacement Antonio Valencia probably means that the Brazilian isn’t in favour at Old Trafford. With Ramos able to play on the right as well as at centre-back it could be that Rafael leaves to make some room for him.

1) Paddy McNair

Looked to be breaking in to the first team towards the end of the last campaign, but if such an experienced player were to join United it could mean that the youngster has to go. Would this be going against their principle of trusting in youth that started under Sir Alex Ferguson?
