Liverpool transfer rumours
Manchester United tell £8m Liverpool target to find new club
The Premier League pair missed out on two rumoured targets this week, when AC Milan moved quickly to acquire both Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano.
Chelsea may have acquired Radamel Falcao, and Liverpool have brought in Roberto Firmino—who should make a major contribution—but both still look like they need another striker, especially if their ambitions for the season are to be met.
In this piece, we present five forward who could prove to be difference-makers for either club.
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann was pipped in the Liga BBVA scoring charts by only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo last season—an indication of just how the Atletico Madrid star is thriving in Spain.
The France international found the net 25 times during his maiden campaign, and while his £43.5 million release clause is eye-watering, he may well prove to be worth the outlay.
Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani managed 31 goals for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 last season, but has reportedly grown disenchanted with life at the Parc des Princes due to having to play in wide areas so often.
Should Chelsea or Liverpool take a punt on the Uruguay hitman, and played him as a centre-forward, they would be acquiring a superb offensive weapon who could terrorise Premier League defences.
Karim Benzema
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, although as yet, the Red Devils have yet to complete a deal for the hitman.
Benzema’s immediate future at the Bernabeu is shrouded in uncertainty, and the forward may be tempted by a move to England, particularly if he could be guaranteed to be a side’s star man.
Arsenal may also look to bring the forward to the EPL.
Gonzalo Higuain
Having missed out on the Champions League, and having lost Rafael Benitez to Real Madrid, Napoli look set for a summer of turmoil.
AS Roma have made an offer for Gonzalo Higuain, but the Argentine striker has also been linked to the Premier League and would be a sublime addition for either Liverpool or Chelsea.
Alex Lacazette
Lacazette was one of the sensations of the Ligue 1 season, having managed 29 goals over the year, helping Olympique Lyonnais launch a title challenge.
Ultimately, they fell short, but Lacazette saw his reputation improve enormously. The French international has been linked with a move to England, where his explosive pace and movement could make him an effective performer.
