Liverpool transfer rumours
Ten richest British footballers, with two Man Utd legends, Chelsea greats, and Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale

Should manager Louis van Gaal decide to cut his losses on his record signing, then he will need to replace the 27-year-old. Here are six options that the Dutchman could look in to…

6) Raheem Sterling, Liverpool

Much has been said of the 20-year-old’s contract saga, but it is important to remember that he is still one of the best young players in Europe. If the Red Devils were to sign him from one of their fierce rivals it could be one of the transfer coups of the decade.

5) Gareth Bale, Real Madrid

Although player and club don’t seem keen on him leaving the Bernabeu right now, after being booed by fans last season they could be persuaded to change their minds. Were United to get the former Tottenham man he would make them instant title challengers.

4) Antoine Griezmann, Atletico Madrid

The 24-year-old managed 25 goals in his debut Rojiblancos season, and this shows the ability the player has. Originally a winger, he could easily fit in there or centrally at Old Trafford.

3) Pedro, Barcelona

He may have signed a new contract with the Catalan side not so long ago, but if United came calling the 27-year-old could be enticed to leave as he is currently behind Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez in the Nou Camp pecking order. Although not as globally renowned as Di Maria, he could do at least as well as the Argentinian did in the last campaign.

2) Yacine Brahimi, Porto

Impressed with Algeria at the 2014 World Cup, and continued that form with the Portuguese side last season. 12 goals in 37 appearances say the Red Devils could do a lot worse than the 25-year-old.

1) Nicolas Gaitan, Benfica

Being heavily linked to Man Utd, and could already have been chosen to replace Di Maria. Able to play on both wings and known for his dribbling ability and pace, the Argentinian could be perfect.
