Tottenham transfer news

Tottenham Hotspur need to spend this summer, and need to spend wisely – the club has not qualified for the Champions League since 2010 and is still short of the quality needed to break into the top four.

As ever, the north London outfit are being linked with some big names, and if three or more of these five could be brought in, it could be a great season for Mauricio Pochettino’s men…

1) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

Linked several times with Tottenham due to being a favourite of former Southampton manager Pochettino, Morgan Schneiderlin is also being linked with a £25m move to Manchester United, but would be a big hit at White Hart Lane and just what the club needs in midfield.

2) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

Valued at around £32.5m, Christian Benteke could leave Aston Villa this summer and has long been on Spurs’ radar. The powerful Belgian would be a big upgrade on the likes of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor, making a fine partner for Harry Kane up front.

3) Toby Alderweireld (Atletico Madrid)

Also wanted by Chelsea, Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld impressed on loan at Southampton last season and is now believed to be close to moving to Tottenham, in what would be a superb move to strengthen the team’s defence.

4) Fabian Delph (Aston Villa)

Available for just £8m this summer, Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph is wanted by Manchester City and is another potentially great buy for Tottenham, who were linked with the England international back in January.

5) Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain)

A superb young prospect, Adrien Rabiot has been linked with Spurs in the past and is another midfielder they should be looking at again this summer, with the Frenchman able to add some creativity and spark to the side.
