This will be a surprise when considering that the 22-year-old was very highly-rated when he made his debut back in 2010. With the Blues having several exciting youngsters on their books now, there will be a few hoping to avoid the same fate as the midfielder.

Here are six who are in that boat…

6) Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Made his debut in the latter stages of last season, and the 19-year-old has been promised more game time in the next campaign by Jose Mourinho [The Guardian]. However, it could still go wrong, with the pairing of Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic a hard one to break past in the middle of the park.

5) Dominic Solanke

Came off the bench in a few matches last time round, but with Diego Costa the unchallenged number one striker and Radamel Falcao now arriving on loan he will find it hard to continue getting minutes.

At least he has time on his hands at just 17-years-old.

4) Kurt Zouma

Already a fairly regular player at Stamford Bridge, it is unlikely that Jose Mourinho will be letting the 20-year-old go anytime soon.

However, with Everton star John Stones a target according to the Daily Mail, it could be that the France international would lose out if they get their man.

3) Nathan Ake

The 20-year-old is running out of time to make an impact with the London outfit, especially with the rise of Loftus-Cheek in his position.

Made his debut as a 17-year-old back in 2012, but has only made 16 more appearances since then. That is despite playing 13 matches for Netherlands Under 21s in the same period.

2) Nathaniel Chalobah

Has impressed in the Championship during several loan periods with different clubs, but the 20-year-old looks set to eventually be let go by the Blues. Whoever signs him will be getting a player with bags of potential, as shown by his 21 England Under 21s caps.

1) Patrick Bamford

Scored 19 goals in 43 games for Middlesbrough last season, but the arrival of Radamel Falcao at Stamford Bridge means that there will be few chances on his return to the first team. Another loan could be calling, but it is possible that Mourinho will let him go permanently as well.
