According to the same report, the Gunners are also thinking about a £43 million bid for the 27-year-old, which could mean that a transfer is on the horizon.

If Arsene Wenger does bring in the forward, it could mean the end for these five players at the Emirates Stadium…

5) Joel Campbell

Much was expected of the 23-year-old last season after he had impressed in Costa Rica’s miraculous run to the World Cup quarter finals.

However, he ended up making just ten appearances and not scoring a single goal before being sent out on loan to Villarreal.

The Metro believes that Wenger is listening to offers for the forward, and Higuain’s arrival could push the player out of the club.

4) Yaya Sanogo

Although it may only be a temporary move, the striker is likely to leave the Emirates this summer to make room for a new forward, according to the London Evening Standard.

The 22-year-old has failed to thrive in English football so far and a move to Lille, who the Standard have linked, could be enough for him to get his confidence back.

3) Chuba Akpom

Went on loan to Brentford, Coventry City, and Nottingham Forest last season, and the 19-year-old may have been hoping for a first team opportunity this time round.

However, were a world-class striker such as Higuain to arrive it would could mean that the youngster was sent out on loan again.

The possibility of moving to Forest on a temporary basis has been mooted by the Nottingham Post.

2) Theo Walcott

Yet to sign a new contract at the Emirates, despite the Metro claiming he was about to do so several weeks ago.

This could mean that there is still hope for Liverpool and Chelsea to sign him, with both sides interested, according to the Daily Express.

The arrival of yet another competitor for his position could make the England international come round to the idea that his future may be away from North London.

1) Danny Welbeck

He may have only been signed last summer, but the 24-year-old struggled in his debut campaign, scoring eight goals and contributing three assists in 34 games.

That isn’t enough goals for a striker and not enough assists for a winger, depending on where the forward was playing.

Could Wenger agree with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal that he isn’t good enough [Daily Telegraph], and move the player on if Higuain arrives?

The Metro believe that should Wenger bring any new arrivals to the Emirates Stadium, Welbeck would run the risk of being the fall guy.
