The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Los Che defender Nicolas Otamendi since the start of the summer [via Independent Sport] and his departure from the Mestalla could be softened by the arrival of his Argentina international teammate.

Suggestions that a deal to take Garay to Valencia are at an advanced stage surfaced via social media on Monday afternoon after the player was snapped on a flight, presumably to Spain to complete his move from Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg.

He and Otamendi were apart of the Argentina squad that were beaten on penalties by hosts Chile in the 2015 Copa America final last Saturday.

Garay’s arrival could pave the way for United manager Louis van Gaal to make a move for Otamendi and finally complete a defensive signing after being frustrated in the transfer market so far.

The International Business Times report that if the Red Devils were to sign the defender, they would need to meet his minimum fee release clause of €50m, and would not be able to get him for less.

Memphis Depay remains the only new addition to the playing staff at Old Trafford so far and the club have missed out on a host of transfer targets already.

New Liverpool signing Nathaniel Clyne was rumoured to be on van Gaal’s wishlist and a deal was thought to have been agreed towards the end of last season [via Star Sport], however the Red Devils withdrew their interest [via Star Sport] and the England international opted to join the Merseyside outfit last week [via BBC Sport].

Meanwhile long-time target Mats Hummels rejected a switch to United and committed his future to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund [via Mirror Sport].

One rumoured signing that could still happen is Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos to Old Trafford and fresh reports [via Metro Sport] on Monday claimed that personal terms have been agreed and all that is left is to settle on a fee.
