The Red Devils will pay £12.7 million for the defender, who can also play in midfield.

The arrival of the right-back could mean the end of several players’ futures at Old Trafford, with manager Louis van Gaal clearing out some of the deadwood to make room for the Italy international.

Here are four of the most likely stars to make way for Darmian…

4) Antonio Valencia

In May, it was touted by the Daily Express that the Ecuador international was going to be sold to make room for a new right-back, although they didn’t consider Darmian as the specific figure to displace Valencia at the time.

Even so, the point still stands that the Red Devils will look to get rid of the 29-year-old if they bring in someone for his position in the side.

3) Jonny Evans

Already being offered to Everton as part of a swap deal for Seamus Coleman, reported the Daily Star, and the Northern Irishman could find himself forced out of Old Trafford if another defender arrives in the squad.

His ban for spitting on Newcastle United’s Papiss Cisse will have put doubts over the 27-year-old’s temperament at the highest level.

2) Rafael

Made just ten appearances last season, and is a wanted man according to the Manchester Evening News.

If Darmian signs the Brazilian will have even fewer opportunities, and that could finally make the Brazilian leave United.

1) Phil Jones

Already sweating over whether he will be given a new contract by van Gaal, according to the Daily Mirror, the the arrival of Darmian could be the final nail in the coffin for the England international.

His defensive errors last season won’t have helped the 23-year-old to win over his manager.
