From worst to best, a look at the captains of the Premier League big six sides going into next season as Jordan Henderson is confirmed as Liverpool’s new skipper…

6) Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Not a player who will be starting a lot of games next season, Mikel Arteta is past his bets for Arsenal and should surely no longer be captain, despite being an experienced head and strong presence at the club.

5) Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

Another player looking past his peak, Vincent Kompany has been a great servant for Manchester City but should no longer be guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.

4) Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)

Goalkeepers don’t always make the best captains, but Tottenham star Hugo Lloris is undoubtedly a real leader in this Spurs squad and a player who sets an example with his superb performances.

3) Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

A good choice for Liverpool to replace Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson took on the role well last season as Gerrard sat out a lot of games and will surely prove to be one of the Premier League’s best skippers.

2) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

Made United captain last season, Wayne Rooney has done a great job for the Red Devils with some improved displays to help inspire his side back into the top four.

1) John Terry (Chelsea)

By far the best captain in the Premier League now that Gerrard has left, John Terry always gives his all for Chelsea and has led the club to no end of success during his time as skipper of the Blues.
