Hit or miss? We rank all of van Gaal’s additions from worst to best.

9) Radamel Falcao

The Colombian striker is the worst signing of the lot as he struggled whilst on-loan with the Red Devils last year. He registered just four league goals all season and simply looked a shadow of his former self.

8) Luke Shaw

Much was anticipated from Shaw following his big money move from Southampton just after last summer’s World Cup, however Shaw struggled with a host of injuries which limited him to just 16 Premier League appearances last season and his yet to justify his £30m price-tag.

7) Angel Di Maria

After the club splashed out a record transfer fee of £59.7m on Di Maria, he was expected to take the Premier League by storm and despite early performances that suggested he would, the Argentine faded thereafter and was eventually kept out of the starting XI towards the end of the season by Ashley Young.

6) Victor Valdes

It’s difficult to judge the former Barcelona stopper as he only made two appearances for United after arriving on a free transfer in January.

His one and only start against Hull City on the last day of the 2014-15 campaign saw him pull off a series of fine saves which suggest his horrible knee injury hasn’t affected him too much and could push to be the club’s number one next season.

5) Daley Blind

Blind’s versatility means he is such a welcome addition at Old Trafford as he can slot effortlessly into a number of defensive and midfield positions.

The Dutchman also weighed in with two vital equalisers last season which helped United secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

4) Marcos Rojo

The Argentine defender had many different centre-back partners last year, which couldn’t have been easy for him as he was still adjusting to life in England.

Despite this, Rojo has shown he has the potential to grow into a very good defender judging by some of his performances from last season.

3) Bastian Schweinsteiger

The German international is still to undergo a medical and agree personal terms before officially being unveiled as a United player, but the impact he will have on the team can’t be ignored.

2) Memphis Depay

Another addition that is yet to kick a ball for United, but Depay is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in European football and looks like he will be a key player for the club for many years to come.

1) Ander Herrera

After a slow start to his career in Manchester, Herrera proved to be one of the club’s stand-out performers towards the end of last season and with six goals in his debut season, United fans can expect the former Athletic Bilbao playmaker to get better next year.
