Old Trafford side look set to bring in a fresh striking addition following Robin van Persie’s move to Fenerbahce, here are the top five possible replacements for the Dutchman.

5. Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

Belgian bagged 23 goals in his debut season at Villa Park and displayed a hot streak of form at the tail end of last term. His reported £32.5m price-tag could prove something of an obstacle, as may a lack of Champions League experience.

4. Harry Kane (Tottenham)

The 21-year-old could be the ideal long term option but the England man is a little way down on our list due to his lack of experience. Clearly the White Hart Lane star is set for a bright future after his 31 goal haul last season but can he repeat the feat?

3. Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

Versatile German is effective out wide and as a centre-forward but isn’t a player Pep Guardiola is likely to consider offers for. Louis van Gaal knows the player well from his time in charge at the Allianz Arena and that could aid a bid.

2. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Prolific Pole had an up and down time of it in his debut season at Bayern Munich but a summer move is perhaps unlikely so soon into his long term Allianz Arena contract. Lewandowski topped 20+ Bundesliga goals in his final three seasons at Borussia Dortmund but could only manage 17 last term.

1. Edinson Cavani (PSG)

Uruguayan is said to be unhappy with his wide-attacking role at the Parc des Princes and is very much the ideal man to spearhead the Old Trafford attack. PSG’s interest in Angel di Maria will only assist this transfer being completed this summer.
