DONE DEAL: Manchester City complete signing of Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling

Manchester City have announced that Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling has signed for the club after the England international successfully completed his medical.

In a statement on the Citizen’s official website, the two-time Premier League champions have revealed that the 20-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract at the Etihad, and will wear the No.7 shirt – formerly worn by James Milner who coincidentally moved to Anfield on a free transfer last month.

Sterling will fly out to Melbourne to meet his new team-mates within the next 24 hours to begin his pre-season preparations.

The Reds also confirmed the deal on their website – writing ‘Liverpool FC wishes Raheem well’.

According to BBC Sport, City will pay an initial £44m for his signature – which makes the winger the most expensive English player in history – but the fee could rise to £49m with add-ons.

Sky Blues manager Manuel Pellegrini voiced his excitement at Sterling swapping Anfield for the Etihad:

“Raheem Sterling is one of the best attacking players in world football, and I am very much looking forward to him joining our squad out in Australia later this week,” as quoted by The Guardian.

“He is a young player with outstanding ability, and I am sure the Manchester City fans will be very excited about seeing him in action for the team.”

Sterling made 129 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals, including this stunning finish against his new club:
