Ranking Liverpool’s striker options for next season: New signing Benteke top, Balotelli only fifth choice

Assessing Liverpool’s best options up front for 2015/16.

After news yesterday that Brendan Rodgers is looking set to bring Christian Benteke to Liverpool, here’s a look at how the Belgian international could fit in alongside the other Reds strikers, in our ranking from worst to best…

7) Fabio Borini

Surely on his way out of the club before the end of the summer, Fabio Borini would currently be 7th choice striker at Liverpool given the competition.

6) Rickie Lambert

Another player not looking good enough for this Liverpool side, Rickie Lambert seems pretty far down in the pecking order and could be sold before the transfer window closes.

5) Mario Balotelli

After a nightmare first season at Anfield, Mario Balotelli could be sent packing this summer and would certainly be around fifth choice up front at the moment.

4) Divock Origi

A talented young Belgian striker returning from loan, Divock Origi could face a tough time breaking into the side now that Benteke looks to be on his way.

3) Danny Ings

Another summer signing, Danny Ings would probably be third choice at the moment, though he could force his way into the starting XI with a bit of luck.

2) Daniel Sturridge

Second choice only due to his niggling injury problems, Daniel Sturridge is a class act that Liverpool fans will be hoping to see much more of this season.

1) Christian Benteke

A superb signing for £32.5m if it goes through, it seems fairly certain that Benteke would be top of the pile for Rodgers next season, with his recent form in the Premier League showing he can be one of the best in the business.
