With news that Real Madrid are ruling out selling Sergio Ramos to Manchester United this summer, here’s a look at ten other defenders out there for the Red Devils to consider…
1) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
Long linked with a move to Old Trafford, Mats Hummels could still leave Borussia Dortmund for the right price this summer, and he’d be a great signing.
2) Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)
Strongly linked with a move to United back in January, Brazilian youngster Marquinhos has shown himself to be one of the best young defenders in the world since moving to PSG.

3) Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)
Another option from Real Madrid, Raphael Varane may not be guaranteed a place in the team if Ramos stays and he’d be a great buy for United, though Chelsea are also tracking him.
4) Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao)
Like Varane, an outstanding young French defender, Aymeic Laporte has impressed at Athletic Bilbao and been linked several times with the Red Devils.
5) Neven Subotic (Borussia Dortmund)
Another Dortmund star who has been on United’s radar, Neven Subotic could be a very useful addition at the back for Louis van Gaal’s side.
6) Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)
One of the best defenders in the world in recent years, Atletico Madrid star Diego Godin has also been targeted by United in the recent past and would arguably be better than Ramos.
7) Nicolas Otamendi (Valencia)
Believed to be one of United’s priority targets this summer, it seems likely that they will now go after Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi if they can’t get Ramos.
8) John Stones (Everton)
One of the best young players in English football, Everton starlet John Stones would be another good option for United to consider, though Manchester City are also after him.
9) Kostas Manolas (AS Roma)
Linked with Arsenal this summer, AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas has impressed in Serie A and should be one United also consider bringing in.
