Arsenal, Liverpool & Chelsea new-boys among FIVE signings Man Utd should have made this summer

Rivals’ new-boys would’ve been ideal at Old Trafford!

Although few would argue that Manchester United have had a very good summer transfer window so far, here’s a look at five players they should have beaten their rivals to this summer, including Liverpool’s new striker Christian Benteke

1) Christian Benteke (Liverpool)

With Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao leaving, it’s hard to understand why United have not yet signed a new striker, especially when the excellent Christian Benteke was available for just £32.5m and has now moved to rivals Liverpool in what looks like one of the best moves of the summer.

2) Petr Cech (Arsenal)

As David de Gea looks surely set to leave for Real Madrid, an ideal replacement was available as Petr Cech sought an exit from Chelsea, but it’s too late now as he has gone to Arsenal for a bargain £10m.

3) Asmir Begovic (Chelsea)

Another goalkeeper who has got away from United, Asmir Begovic could easily have been number one at Old Trafford and an excellent replacement for De Gea, but he will now just spend next season sitting on the bench at Chelsea as Thibaut Courtois’ understudy. What a waste.

4) Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham)

One of the best centre-backs in the Premier League last season, Toby Alderweireld was excellent on loan at Southampton but has somehow been allowed to join Tottenham this summer. The Belgian would definitely have been an improvement on United’s current options at the back, but they didn’t even seem to be in the running.

5) Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)

With Angel Di Maria possibly leaving, another excellent signing that Liverpool have made in Roberto Firmino could also have been very welcome at United, with the Brazilian looking potentially world class in the Bundesliga in recent seasons.
