Six Real Madrid stars Manchester United should chase instead of ageing, expensive Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo as a replacement for Angel Di Maria if he goes to PSG, reports the Daily Star.

However, at 30-years-old and likely demanding a large transfer fee and wages, there are better players at the Bernabeu who the Red Devils could go after.

Here are six United could target…

6) Isco

The 23-year-old is one of the best young players in Europe, but with the vast array of attacking talent at the Spanish club he has struggled to get in to the first team regularly. The Red Devils could pounce for a attacking midfielder with nearly 200 appearances in senior football, and a growing reputation.

5) Gareth Bale

Although the player and club have insisted that he is staying with Los Merengues, surely a move could be tempting after the abuse he received from fans last season. Already proven in the Premier League after his time with Tottenham, the Welshman could instantly improve United’s team.

4) Raphael Varane

United have looked shaky at the back in recent times, and what better way to solve the problem than to sign one of the best centre-back prospects in the game. With Pepe and Ramos seemingly ahead of the 22-year-old in the pecking order at the Bernabeu, he could surely be tempted by a move.

3) Sergio Ramos

Rumours linking the 29-year-old to Old Trafford may have been quashed by Rafael Benitez, but that doesn’t take away from how good a signing the Spain international could be. With defence more of a problem than the forward line, it would make more sense to spend massively on the centre-back than on Ronaldo.

2) Karim Benzema

With Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie having left the Red Devils, they are in need of a new striker. Louis van Gaal could do far worse than sign the France international who netted 22 times in 47 games last season.

1) Keylor Navas

With David De Gea potentially going to the Bernabeu either this summer or next, the acquisition of a new goalkeeper must be high on van Gaal’s checklist. Navas displayed how good a goalie he was at the last World Cup, and although he has been given the number one jersey with Los Blancos could be available if they sign a stopper of De Gea’s quality.
