FOUR areas Arsenal need to IMPROVE more than their goalscoring, after Wenger claims it’s a problem

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has pinpointed goalscoring as the area that needs to be improved if they are to win the Premier League next season, reports the Daily Express.

However, having only scored two goals less than champions Chelsea last time round, is this really what the Gunners need to be focussing on?

Here are four areas they should concentrate on ahead of their strikers…

4) A regular midfield partnership

Chelsea showed how having two players, in Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic, playing regularly in the middle of the park can be of great benefit to the side. Meanwhile, the Gunners switched between Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Mathieu Flamini, and Jack Wilshere in the centre. If Wenger can settle on a pair the stability could make a big difference to their performances.

3) Reliability at the back

The acquisition of Petr Cech should help with this, but the whole back line will have to improve as well. While conceding only 38 goals in the league last time round isn’t bad, players such as Per Mertesacker and Flamini have a tendency to make mistakes against the bigger sides. As well as this it is yet to be seen how Hector Bellerin and Gabriel Paulista react to the pressure of a title race.

2) A real threat on the right-wing

While Alexis Sanchez has made the left-wing role his own, on the right it has been a different story. Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, and Mesut Ozil were put in the position at different times, with varying levels of success. While Walcott is the most likely to make a regular contribution from the right, it could be that he is needed centrally and another will have to step in.

1) To tie down the left-back role

Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs have seemingly been sharing the position over the last two years, and neither is really at the top level. As Chelsea have displayed a regular back four is important to a side, and Wenger needs to either bring in a new full-back or stick with a player in the role.
