United willing to pay far too much for defenders?
A look at the list of defenders linked with Manchester United this summer and the crazy money being thrown around with regards to their possiblee fees, including the hugely overrated Sergio Ramos…
1) Marquinhos – £70m
A report from earlier this year suggested it could cost as much as £70m to sign Brazilian defender Marquinhos from PSG – no wonder United’s interest has cooled since January!

2) Sergio Ramos – £65m
Valued at a ridiculous £65m, United have failed with bids in between £30-40m for Sergio Ramos, who is not even among the top five defenders in the world.
3) John Stones – £40m
Only a regular at Everton for about a year and a half, John Stones’ value has already risen to a crazy £40m, which is surely too much for such an unproven player, despite his quality.
4) Nicolas Otamendi – £36m
One good season in La Liga and Nicolas Otamendi is being talked about as a £36m player, though he looks cheap in comparison to these other United targets.
5) Mats Hummels – £35m
Injury prone and part of a declining Borussia Dortmund team, Mats Hummels looks a gamble at that kind of fee, and is any defender in the world really worth £35m?
6) Aymeric Laporte – £30m
Another young and inexperienced player, Aymeric Laporte’s fine form for Athletic Bilbao has seen him linked with a £30m move to United and other top clubs in recent times.
