DONE DEAL: Stoke City confirm the signing of former Barcelona star Ibrahim Afellay

Stoke City have pulled off somewhat of a transfer coup with the signing of former Barcelona attacking midfielder Ibrahim Afellay.

The Potters confirmed the deal via their official Twitter account on Monday evening as the Dutchman has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the Barclays Premier League outfit.

Afellay becomes the fourth ex-Barca player to make a shock transfer to the Britannia Stadium in the last year and will join Bojan, Marc Muniesa and fellow recent recruit Moha El Ouriachi at the club for the upcoming campaign.

The signing of the Dutchman further highlights the change in the style of football under Mark Hughes and he will be hoping to get the best out of the 29-year-old, who was once regarded as one of the hottest prospects in European football whilst at PSV Eindhoven.

Afellay joined the La Liga giants during the 2011 January transfer window but injuries limited him to just 21 league appearances and his contract was allowed to expire over the summer after spending the last two season’s on-loan at Schalke and Olympiakos respectively.
