Tottenham star having medical; nearing £4.5m transfer

Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches is on the brink of a departure from White Hart Lane, and is currently in Napoli for a medical with the Italian heavyweights.

According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old arrived in Italy on Wednesday morning and is expected to be announced as a Partenopei player imminently, with £4.5 million deal having been agreed between the two clubs.

The player had appeared to be on the verge of a move to another Serie A outfit—with both Fiorentina [Sky Italia via talkSPORT] and, previously, AS Roma [Metro] keen on his services—but instead it looks likely that he will move to Naples.

The Romanian will become the latest player to be cast away from Spurs during Mauricio Pochettino’s massive summer overhaul.

While the Argentine coach has not invested in many new players—bringing only Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer to the club so far this window—he has not been slow to offload those he feel has nothing to offer.

Beyond Chiriches, the likes of Etienne Capoue, Benjamin Stambouli, Paulinho and Younes Kaboul have all already left the club, joining teams in England, France and China.

The 25-year-old defender only managed eight outings in the EPL last season and does not appear to have ever had the faith of Pochettino, who preferred the likes of Federico Fazio and Eric Dier alongside Jan Vertonghen.
