DONE DEAL: AS Roma sign Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on season-long loan deal (Twitter)

Arsenal have confirmed goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will spend the 2015-16 campaign on loan at Serie A giants AS Roma.

The Gunners announced the news via their official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon and have wished the Polish stopper the best of luck ahead of the new campaign.

The 25-year-old made 29 appearances in all competitions for the North London outfit last season and kept a clean sheet in the FA Cup final victory against Aston Villa back in May, however, he lost his status as the number one choice following a disappointing performance against Southampton on New Years Day.

Now with the arrival of Petr Cech earlier in the transfer window, regular first team opportunities would have been limited for the Poland international and he has opted to join the last season’s Serie A runners-up in order to keep himself match-fit ahead of the European Championships next summer.

Szczesny is set to be reunited with former teammate Gervinho at the Stadio Olimpico and will also join up with ex-Gunner Ashley Cole, who made the switch to Italy from Chelsea on a free transfer last year.
