Community Shield: Arsenal player ratings, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Petr Cech impressing

GK) Thibaut Courtois, 9

Some great saves from the Belgian, and he had no chance on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal. Showed everyone why Petr Cech has been allowed to join the Gunners.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic, 5

Solid as always at the back, but was poor going forward. Many of his crosses were woefully inaccurate and easily defended.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta, 4

Looked off the pace and not fully fit against the speed of Oxlade Chamberlain. He has one week to get back in to shape for the season opener.

CB) John Terry, 6

Reliable at the back, and organised the defence to the best of his abilities. It was only an individual mistake that let a goal get past them in the end.

CB) Gary Cahill, 6

His partnership with Terry looks secure at the moment, but should Jose Mourinho sign John Stones from Everton then it could put question marks over his place in the side.

CM) Ramires, 5

Endlessly ran as usual, but missed a golden opportunity to score in the first period when he headed straight at Cech.

CM) Nemanja Matic, 6

Not quite up to his levels of last season yet, but it still early days for the former Benfica man.

CAM) Cesc Fabregas, 7

Tried his best against a fine Arsenal midfield, and should have had an assist with one great pass to Eden Hazard which the Belgian wasted.

LM) Eden Hazard, 3

Was peripheral throughout the match, and will need to improve as the Blues rely so heavily on his creativity.

RM) Willian, 4

Similar to Hazard, and perhaps a new winger is need to provide competition for the pair at Stamford Bridge.

ST) Loic Remy, 4

Failed to get a single shot on target before going off at half time.

SUB) Radamel Falcao, 5

Never stopped running, but there were some worrying signs that he still isn’t out of the rut that caused him to be a failure at Manchester United.

SUB) Oscar, 7

Brought some urgency to Chelsea’s game, and also tested Cech with a great free kick late on.

SUB) Kurt Zouma, 5

Seemed to be used as an offensive threat when brought on, which doesn’t really suit the youngster.

SUB) Victor Moses, 5

Didn’t have enough time on the pitch to make a meaningful impact.
