Six players with points to prove in the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League season, including Arsenal star and Manchester United flop

With the start of the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League season just days away, many players will need to prove they are worthy of being at their respective clubs.

Take a look at a player from each of last season’s top six, who are facing a make-or-break campaign.

1) Chelsea – Radamel Falcao

The former Manchester United loanee has been handed a second chance to prove he can cut it in the Premier League and after a poor spell at Old Trafford last year, where he could only manage four goals all campaign, Falcao will be desperate to prove all his doubters wrong.

2) Manchester City – Eliaquim Mangala

There can be no excuses from the Frenchman should he fail to live up to his hefty £32million price-tag this season as he’s had a year to adjust to English football and with a full pre-season under his belt this time round, Mangala should now be ready to stake his claim for a regular spot alongside Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence.

3) Arsenal – Theo Walcott

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has shown his faith in the England international by handing him a brand new four-year contract and now it’s time for Walcott to finally make an impact for the North London outfit.

Many supporters will be praying that the 26-year-old can stay fully fit this season and if so he could fire the club to their first Premier League title in over a decade.

4) Manchester United – Luke Shaw

When the 20-year-old signed for the Red Devils shortly after participating for England at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil, it appeared Shaw had the world at his feet and was destined to establish himself for club and country.

However, a series of injuries last season prevented the left-back from progressing even further and he now needs to steer clear of the treatment table this year if he is to fulfil his undoubted potential.

5) Tottenham  – Erik Lamela

Spurs supporters are still waiting to see the very best from the club’s record signing and it would be no shock if patience is running out at White Hart Lane.

Barring a sensational goal in last season’s Europa League group stages, Lamela has simply failed to justify his £30million price-tag and really has a lot to prove this year, otherwise his career in England will surely be over come next summer.

6) Liverpool – Dejan Lovren

The former Southampton was expected to shore up the Reds defence following his £20million transfer last summer, however, the Croatian international did the complete opposite as he looked to be suffering with nerves after joining one of the biggest teams in Europe.

Many Kop supporters will be hoping Lovren has learnt from his mistakes and will be a better player this year.
