Arsenal beat Manchester United to PRODIGY; teenager pictured training with Gunners

Arsenal look to have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Benfica prodigy Joao Virginia, according to the Daily Star.

The 15-year-old has been pictured training with the Gunners, but is unlikely to confirm the move until he turns 16 in October. With Petr Cech, David Ospina, and Damian Martinez in Arsene Wenger’s first team squad, it is likely that the youngster won’t make an impact for the senior side for several years.

However, the move will still be a blow to the Red Devils, with the player highly rated in his home country of Portugal. United are more in need of a keeper as well – even if the teenager isn’t ready to make an impact – as Victor Valdes and David De Gea have both been heavily linked with moves away from Old Trafford.

This isn’t the first time that the North Londoners have signed goalie and hurt their rivals in the process this summer. Petr Cech arrived from Chelsea earlier in the transfer window, depriving the Blues of a world-class stopper as well as solving one of Arsenal’s biggest problems – a reliable man between the sticks.
