Premier League team of the weekend – Man Utd new-boy among those to shine on opening day.

After the first weekend of the Premier League season, here’s our first team of the weekend, with Manchester United and Liverpool stars joined by three West Ham players after a superb win away to Arsenal…

GK: Adrian (West Ham)

One of the finest goalkeeping displays on show this weekend, Adrian really shone for West Ham to help keep Arsenal at bay at the Emirates Stadium.

DR: Cedric Soares (Southampton)

A superb signing already, Cedric Soares had a great game at right-back on his debut for Southampton, going forward to good effect but unable to prevent a 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

DL: Jordan Amavi (Aston Villa)

Another new-boy, Jordan Amavi looked an exciting prospect in his first game for Aston Villa, helping the club to a win over Bournemouth.

DC: Reece Oxford (West Ham)

An amazing debut, 16-year-old Reece Oxford was calm and assured at the back for the Hammers in this memorable win, and looks a top talent to watch out for.

MC: Morgan Schneiderlin (Manchester United)

A commanding performance from Morgan Schneiderlin in his first game for Manchester United, running the show to help the club to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tottenham.

MC: Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace)

Back to his best after a disappointing spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Yohan Cabaye was undoubtedly one of the best midfielders on show this weekend in Crystal Palace’s win at Norwich.

AMR: Jefferson Montero (Swansea City)

A tricky winger who gave Chelsea plenty to deal with all afternoon, Jefferson Montero was the stand-out performer for Swansea in their 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

AML: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)

Another skillful wide-man in fine form this weekend, Riyad Mahrez was man of the match for Leicester City in their excellent 4-2 victory over Sunderland.

AMC: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)

Scorer of a wondergoal to win the game, Philippe Coutinho looks like becoming a real matchwinner for Liverpool this season and deserves a place in the team of the weekend.

FC: Mauro Zarate (West Ham)

After being out in the cold at West Ham last season, what a performance this was from Mauro Zarate, who is the final entrant in the team of the weekend with a fine goal to seal the 2-0 win over Arsenal.
