Tottenham confident £18m fee will land top Premier League forward

Tottenham believe an offer of £18m will lead to the capture of long-term target Saido Berahino, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old England hopeful netted 20 goals in all competitions last term and is a hot prospect for the future and a player who could ably boost Mauricio Pochettino’s attack.

The White Hart Lane side have seen Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor fail to impress over the past 18 months, and neither player made Pochettino’s squad for their opening Premier League fixture away at Man United.

Berahino saw his West Brom side slump to a 3-0 home defeat to Man City on Monday night and the Daily Mail believe Tony Pulis’s side want £25m for the forward.

Tottenham relied heavily on Harry Kane for an end product in 2014/15 and fortunately the England international completed an astounding campaign with 31 goals in all competition, an effort the forward 22-year-old will be hard pressed to replicate.

Kane and Berahino have been England Under 21 international team-mates in the past, and having played alongside each other in the past, may be primed to form an exciting young Tottenham strike partnership.

While Pochettino has invested heavily in his defence so far this summer; bringing Kevin Wimmer, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier to White Hart Lane, he has not yet spent any money on his attacking options. However, the Lilywhites failed to break down an uncertain Manchester United in their Premier League opener, and it would appear that further spending on their offence will be vital if the north London side are to realise their season expectations.
