Liverpool clear out: Reds to axe SIX in final weeks of transfer window, including shock defender exit & strike duo

Six to leave in Liverpool clear out before the end of the summer.

Brendan Rodgers will embark on a major Liverpool clear out in the final weeks of the summer transfer window as he aims to get a number of unwanted players off his wage bill.

The Reds have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in a host of new names including big-money buys like Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.

Rodgers now needs to balance the books at Anfield by offloading some well-paid players who are out of favour, with these six believed to be in the firing line, based on recent reports:

1) Mario Balotelli

Linked with the likes of AS Roma and Sampdoria, a return to Serie A looks highly likely for Mario Balotelli, who had a seriously disappointing first season with Liverpool and who is surely now down in the pecking order after new arrivals up front.

2) Fabio Borini

Another Italian flop on Merseyside, Fabio Borini has been linked with Fiorentina, Lazio and West Ham and is surely close to an exit after faling to make the grade in Rodgers’ side.

3) Lucas Leiva

Previously linked with Serie A duo Napoli and Inter Milan, it looks like Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva is also up for sale at Liverpool this summer, after reports earlier this week.

4) Mamadou Sakho

In a shock move, Mamadou Sakho has become a target for Roma after being left out of the Liverpool team on the opening day of the season, despite showing real improvement at Anfield last term.

5) Alberto Moreno

Having struggled to settle at Liverpool, Alberto Moreno has also been linked with a surprise move to Barcelona this summer, with the Reds also eyeing Lucas Digne as a possible replacement.

6) Tiago Ilori

A signing who has barely featured at all since joining Liverpool, Tiago Ilori has been linked with several clubs and could also be offloaded this summer in this major Liverpool clear out.
