Arsenal close in on club record signing as £45m forward demands Gunners transfer

Emirates Stadium side close in on top goal-scorer signing.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is apparently keen to complete his long awaited move to Arsenal according to the Daily Star.

The Gunners have launched a club record £45m bid for the 27-year-old French international and now the ball is firmly in Real Madrid’s court.

Many reports suggest that newly appointed Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez is keen to keep hold of Benzema but talk of the former Liverpool manager looking to use either Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo in a central role may well lead the Bernabeu side to consider big money offers for the striker.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with an interest in Benzema dating back to his time at Lyon and the La Liga marksman may be considering his options.

Benzema would offer Arsenal a far more prolific spearhead for their attack than current first-choice starter Olivier Giroud.

Giroud has scored 58 goals in 136 appearances for Arsenal since his £13m move to the North London club back in June 2012.
