Liverpool news and transfer rumours: DOUBLE fitness boost, €21m move, and Portuguese wants to play for Reds

Liverpool have already signed seven players for their first team this summer, but don’t seem to be finished there.

Brendan Rodgers has brought James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino, and Christian Benteke to Anfield, putting huge pressure on his position at the club if they fail.

However, he has some good news today, with two players making significant progress towards getting fully fit and further additions potentially on the way.

Will this be enough for the Reds to make it into the top four of the Premier League this season?

5) Jordan Henderson in with chance of making Arsenal match

The captain limped off against Bournemouth on Monday, and it had been feared that he broken a bone in his foot. However, the Daily Mirror have revealed that this is not the case, and the player will have a chance of playing against Arsenal on Monday.

This will be a major boost against the Gunners, who are one of the Merseyside club’s rivals for a place in the top four.

4) Lucas Leiva targeted by Turkish giants

Besiktas are interested in taking Lucas on a season-long loan according to NTV Spor [via Daily Star].

The 28-year-old is thought to have fallen out of favour with manager Brendan Rodgers after the arrival of James Milner at Anfield. The Northern Irishman is trying to offload him permanently, but may be placated by a loan deal.

3) Tiago Ilori in first team plea

Ilori is keen to stay with the Merseyside club and fight for his place in the first team, despite having never made an appearance since signing in 2013 [Liverpool Echo].

The Portuguese arrived for £7 million from Sporting Lisbon, but has been sent out on loans to Granada and Bordeaux for the two seasons since. The club are keen for him to go on another temporary deal this time round.

“I want to play for Liverpool,” he said, “I don’t want to be in Liverpool just to be sitting around. My objective is the same as every other player, we all want to play so everyone’s going to fight for their place.”

2) Daniel Sturridge fitness update

Sturridge is set to return to Liverpool to continue his recovery from a hip problem, reports the Daily Express.

The 25-year-old had an operation on the issue back in May, and has been on the sidelines since. Now club head of performance Glen Driscoll and physio Chris Morgan will assess him in the USA, before he travels back to Merseyside.

The England international could be back in training as early as next week, and available for selection against Manchester United on September 12.

1) €21 million bid for Borussia Dortmund ace eyed

The Anfield outfit are keen on the 26-year-old again, after originally showing their interest six months ago, reports the Daily Mirror.

Brendan Rodgers could make a €21 million bid for the attacking midfielder, but will have to fight off interest from Juventus to sign him. The Armenia international is a similar type of player to Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, making this interest slightly unusual.
