Besiktas set to confirm loan deal for longest-serving Liverpool midfielder ‘within 48 hours’

Lucas Leiva is on the verge of completing his move from Liverpool to Turkish giants Besiktas, following reports in Star Sport that a loan deal could be sealed within the next 48 hours.

The Brazilian midfielder’s future at Anfield has been thrown into doubt after he has been left out of manager Brendan Rodgers’ match-day squads for the opening two games of the new season and there was also reports that the pair have fallen out.

With the Rodgers bolstering his midfield options with the signing of James Milner in the summer, Lucas has found himself even further down the pecking order for a place in the engine room and is now set to join Besiktas on a season-long loan deal in the coming days according to the club’s director Erol Kaynar:

“A loan deal is likely. It could go ahead within the next two days,” Kaynar said.

Once Lucas’s departure is confirmed, the Merseyside outfit are expected to reignite their interest in Real Madrid’s deep-lying playmaker Asier Illarramendi, however, they are likely to face strong competition from Serie A giants Juventus for the Spaniard’s signature.
