Tottenham coach drops major hint that new signings are on the way, amidst £20m forward rumours

Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino has given a clear indication that he is on the brink of making a new signing at White Hart Lane, with Saido Berahino heavily linked with a move to North London.

As reported by the Mirror, Pochettino has dropped a major hint that he is anticipating a new arrival at the club over the coming days. “Maybe (something will) happen in the next few days,” the Argentine coach began, “we have our different targets but I never speak in public about our targets.”

The Anglo-Burundian youngster didn’t even feature in West Bromwich Albion’s matchday squad on Sunday, for their 3-2 defeat against Chelsea [Sky Sports], serving to increase speculation that he is nearing a departure from the club.

While Baggies coach Tony Pulis refused to confirm that his forward was set for a departure, he did admit that the transfer speculation was behind his omission, and that his star man was unsettled.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous. For it to be going through the start of the season is ridiculous. We should be talking about this game. This wouldn’t be an issue, a problem,” the coach began, as reported by the Mirror.

“Saido is a great lad. It happens where it can be disruptive, and it has been disruptive,” Pulis continued.

“I had a good chat with him and he’s fine, no problems, but it’s the transfer window,” he admitted.

“Will it go ahead? You’ll have to wait and see. Seven days [until the window closes]. I don’t think that’s relevant. It’s just the kid. He’s a young lad who needs to be protected,” Pulis concluded.

“There’s loads of stuff going on in his mind and there are loads of clubs, not one but 15, saying things and doing things. I’m not talking any more about it…”

The Mirror note that having had a bid of £15 million for the forward rejected by the Throstles, Spurs are set to return to The Hawthorns with an eye-watering offer of £20 million.

Berahino bagged 14 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season, and despite his undisputed promise, he remains a raw talent.
