De Bruyne: Date set for Bundesliga star’s Manchester City medical

All is set for Wolfsburg playmaker Kevin De Bruyne to now undergo his medical with Manchester City following reports that a staggering fee of €74m (£54m) has been agreed.

The Guardian reported on Wednesday night that the Citizens had finally reached a breakthrough in their negotiations having been in discussion for several weeks, and the final details on the deal are now being put into place.

Sky Sports have since stated that De Bruyne is expected to have his medical in Manchester on Thursday or Friday, and the 24-year-old could therefore have his return to the Premier League confirmed within the next few days.

The Belgium international endured two unsuccessful years with Chelsea, making just three Premier League appearances, but has gone on to achieve immense success in his first full season in the Bundesliga.

He broke the record of the most assists recorded in a single campaign in Germany’s top flight, and with City’s midfield perhaps in need of an injection of talented youth, De Bruyne seems the ideal fit for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Whether he will live up to such a mammoth price-tag having failed previously in England now remains to be seen.
