Ten biggest transfer deadline day FLOPS, featuring Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal & Liverpool shockers

Ten worst deadline day signings.

With the deadline day of the summer transfer window fast approaching, here’s a look at the ten worst signings made on the final day of transfer windows.

In no particular order, here are some late panic buys the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United will want to forget…

1) Fernando Torres (Liverpool to Chelsea, 2011)

One of the most famous deadline day disasters, Fernando Torres was world class at Liverpool but awful at Chelsea following his £50m transfer.

2) Robinho (Real Madrid to Manchester City, 2008)

The first big signing of the Sheikh Mansour era, Robinho ended up flopping big time after leaving Real Madrid for Manchester City, eventually ending up back in Brazil with Santos.

3) Danny Welbeck (Manchester United to Arsenal, 2014)

A surprise signing by Arsenal last summer, Danny Welbeck was hardly a world beater at Manchester United and has arguably looked even worse since moving to the Emirates Stadium.

4) Juan Cuadrado (Fiorentina to Chelsea, 2015)

A player who’s already left Chelsea, Juan Cuadrado’s move from Fiorentina was confirmed on deadline day in January, and he barely featured for the club before his departure on loan to Juventus.

5) Andre Santos (Fenerbahce to Arsenal, 2011)

A real panic buy, Andre Santos initially looked decent enough for Arsenal but went quickly downhill with some sluggish and error-prone displays.

6) Radamel Falcao (AS Monaco to Manchester United, 2014)

Only a loan signing, Radamel Falcao was still a huge waste of money in terms of wages and his £6m loan fee, and was not much better than Welbeck, the player he replaced on deadline day last summer.

7) Andy Carroll (Newcastle to Liverpool, 2011)

Liverpool’s record signing, Andy Carroll looked a good prospect when he moved from Newcastle to Anfield, but he is certainly one of the biggest flops in the club’s history.

8) David Luiz (Benfica to Chelsea, 2011)

A bit of a joke, David Luiz had some promising moments when he first joined Chelsea, but became a liability, even if he was eventually sold for a profit.

9) Christopher Samba (Anzhi Makhachkala to QPR, 2013)

Previously regarded as one of the most solid defenders in the Premier League, Christopher Samba was one of many failed QPR buys.

10) Kostas Mitroglou (Olympiakos to Fulham, 2014)

Arriving as one of the best goalscorers in Europe, Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou badly flopped at Fulham, with this deadline day purchase failing to save them from relegation in 2013/14.
