Manchester United David De Gea: Five players who could leave Old Trafford including defensive stalwart and international star

The summer transfer window is drawing to a close, but there is a sense that there is still much business to be done, particularly at Manchester United, where the futures of several players are uncertain.

In this feature, we present five players who could still be set for the exit door at Old Trafford.

David De Gea

The Spain international has been the subject of transfer interest from Real Madrid all summer but, with only a few days to go until the window closes, he remains a United player.

The goalkeeper has agreed terms with the Merengues, but Real are yet to thrash out a fee to bring the player to the club this summer.

With Sergio Romero thriving between the sticks over the last few weeks, might Louis van Gaal be more inclined to cash in on 24-year-old De Gea.

Victor Valdes

Another goalkeeper linked to the exit door is Victor Valdes, whose chances of leaving a legacy at Old Trafford appeared to have ended when he went through a very high-profile dispute with van Gaal.

The keeper has been heavily linked with a move to Turkey, although despite keen interest from Besiktas, the stopper is yet to secure a move away from Manchester.

Speaking on Friday, van Gaal refused to confirm whether or not the former Barcelona man would be on his way.

Jesse Lingard

Young forward Jesse Lingard impressed on loan at Derby County last season, and his former coach Steve McClaren is understood to be keen on bringing him to Newcastle United this season.

Certainly, a move to another Premier League side would represent a major step up for the youngster, but versatile Lingard might just have enough about him to make an instant impact at St. James’ Park.

Jonny Evans

Northern Irish centre-back Jonny Evans has agreed terms with West Bromwich Albion, with United agreeing to offload the 27-year-old for £6 million.

The long-serving stopper apparently agreed to join the Baggies after being convinced by former teammate Darren Ferguson, and he will surely be a valuable asset to the Throstles.

Medical permitting, Evans should be on his way.

Anders Lindegaard

Arguably, Anders Lindegaard is United’s fifth-choice goalkeeper and he doesn’t look like getting closer to an on-field role any time soon.

The 31-year-old has been told that he is surplus to requirements and that he is available on a free transfer.

Having only made 29 appearances for the club, he wouldn’t be a major loss, although should both De Gea and Valdes leave, would van Gaal be foolish to let the experienced Lindegaard leave?
