Chelsea transfer rumours
Arsenal transfer gossip

10) John Stones, Everton to Chelsea

The Toffees have made a big statement by holding on to the 21-year-old. They rejected several bids for the player, with manager Roberto Martinez and chairman Bill Kenwright sticking true to their assertion that the player wasn’t for sale.

9) David De Gea, Manchester United to Real Madrid

Both clubs have blamed the other for this move failing to go through, with some late paperwork eventually scuppering Los Merengues’ chances of landing the 24-year-old.

8) Karim Benzema, Real Madrid to Arsenal

Gunners fans will have been infuriated by manager Arsene Wenger’s inability to sign a top-quality striker this summer. They have struggled to score in their first four matches, and the Frenchman could have solved this issue had the mooted move gone through.

7) Edinson Cavani, PSG to Arsenal

The North London outfit were also linked to the 28-year-old, and the rumours persisted right up until deadline day. However, a transfer never materialised, and the club’s lack of movement could leave them wanting in the Premier League title race.

6) Paul Pogba, Juventus to Chelsea

After their poor start to the season, the Stamford Bridge outfit were linked with several high profile names. However, the 22-year-old was perhaps the most high profile of them, and could have made a major difference to their starting XI. They will now have to wait for at least four months before trying to sign the France international again.

5) Gareth Bale, Real Madrid to Manchester United

After being booed by his fans towards the end of last season, a move to Old Trafford appeared to be possible for the forward. However, he has started the campaign as one of manager Rafael Benitez’s main men, and looks set to remain so for the foreseeable future.

4) Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid to Manchester United

Bale wasn’t the only Bernabeu star who the Red Devils could have signed though, with captain Ramos also the subject of stories linking him with United. However, the 29-year-old ended up signing a new contract with Los Merengues, leaving the Old Trafford hierarchy with egg on their faces.

3) Alexandre Lacazette, Lyon to Arsenal/Liverpool/Manchester United

Top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 27 goals, the 24-year-old stunned many by signing a new contract with OL ahead of a move to the Premier League. It remains to be seen if he can repeat his performances for a second campaign in a row and make that look like the right decision.

2) Marquinhos, PSG to Chelsea

In the final hours of the transfer window it was revealed that the Blues had seen two bids for the defender turned down, perhaps in a last gasp effort to strengthen in the area after failing to sign John Stones. It remains to be seen whether they will revisit their efforts in January or next summer.

1) Saido Berahino, West Brom to Tottenham

Perhaps the failed move which will have the biggest fallout over the next couple of months.  The 22-year-old has  appeared to claim he will not play for the Baggies while Jeremy Peace is chairman, after last minute bids from Tottenham were rejected.
