Is this Arsenal’s best XI after quiet transfer window? Cech in goal, but surprise in midfield & defence

How Arsenal should line up for the season ahead.

With the reality of another disappointing transfer window hitting home, here’s a look at Arsenal‘s best XI for the season ahead, with decisions to be made on Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and more…

GK: Petr Cech

Arsenal’s only summer signing, Petr Cech is a fine buy from Chelsea and is undoubtedly set to be the club’s number one this season.

DR: Hector Bellerin

A fine youngster, Hector Bellerin now looks to be ahead of Mathieu Debuchy in the pecking order in Arsene Wenger’s side.

DL: Nacho Monreal

A strong left-back who has moved ahead of Kieran Gibbs in the pecking order, Nacho Monreal deservedly looks like being a regular this season.

DC: Laurent Koscielny

One of Arsenal’s most experienced players, Laurent Koscielny continues to show himself to be a reliable performer at centre-back.

DC: Gabriel

Perhaps ahead of Per Mertesacker, Gabriel has done well in the German’s absence and has the kind of pace his team-mate lacks to make a difference in the big games.

MC: Francis Coquelin

A little risky perhaps, but Arsenal have clearly decided that Francis Coquelin is now their first choice defensive midfielder after a fine breakthrough last term.

MC: Santi Cazorla

Continuing in this new deeper role, Santi Cazorla is a hugely important part of this Gunners side.

AMR: Theo Walcott

Although he wants to play up front, Theo Walcott perhaps looks best suited to playing on the right flank so he can use his pace most effectively, making room for others.

AML: Alexis Sanchez

A versatile attacker, Alexis Sanchez often does best on the right but is just as comfortable on the left and will likely roam around with some creative freedom.

AMC: Mesut Ozil

Certainly best when he’s used centrally in a number ten role, Mesut Ozil is sure to be a regular starter for Arsenal this season and is tipped to find his best form so far in a red and white shirt.

FC: Olivier Giroud

With Walcott out wide, Olivier Giroud usually seems to relish the service from the flanks and looks a marginally better option than Danny Welbeck for the moment.
