With speculation mounting that the Chelsea Pogba deal could be on this January, here’s a look at five cheaper alternatives for the Blues as they look to strengthen in midfield…
1) Koke (Atletico Madrid)
Another of the finest young midfielders in the world, Chelsea have been linked several times with a move for Atletico Madrid playmaker Koke, who would likely cost a fraction of Pogba’s fee, at closer to £45m or so.
2) Ross Barkley (Everton)
Undoubtedly one of England’s brightest hopes for the future, Everton starlet Ross Barkley is a similarly powerful and skillful box-to-box player who’d make a fine alternative to Pogba for Chelsea.
3) Blaise Matuidi (PSG)
Another strong Frenchman in midfield, PSG star Blaise Matuidi has been on Chelsea’s radar in the past and would be another great buy to give Jose Mourinho’s side more power and dynamism in the middle of the park.
4) Radja Nainggolan (AS Roma)
Another Serie A star, AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan has been linked with big names like Liverpool and Manchester United in the past and looks an option well worth considering for Chelsea.
5) Max Meyer (Schalke)
Another superb prospect, Schalke wonderkid Max Meyer is believed to be one of Chelsea’s long-term targets and would be another class act to add some spark to this Blues side.
