Manchester United injury news: Red Devils star huge doubt for Liverpool clash after withdrawing from international duty

Michael Carrick has had to withdraw from the England squad to face Switzerland due to injury, and is therefore a doubt for Manchester United‘s clash with Liverpool on Saturday.

Carrick was an unused substitute in the victory over San Marino at the weekend, and was thus expected to feature for Roy Hodgson’s side on Tuesday night.

However, Sky Sports have reported that the midfielder will not be available to play, and believe that Hodgson will confirm what the injury is and its extent at his press conference on Monday.

Carrick has made two starts and two substitute appearances so far for Louis van Gaal, the United manager, in the Premier League, and his experience would be a significant loss against Liverpool.

Nonetheless, injury plagued his 2014-15 season, and with Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger having been acquired over the summer, United have the depth to cope with his possible absence.
