Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed the top five players he’s worked with in his illustrious career, including two Red Devils stars and Bayern Munich greats.

In no particular order, the Dutchman listed these five as the best he’s managed…

1) Philipp Lahm

Germany’s World Cup winning captain and long-serving star player at Bayern Munich, Philipp Lahm is undoubtedly one of the finest full-backs of his generation, and was a crucial part of Van Gaal’s side during his time in charge of the Bundesliga giants.

2) Bastian Schweinsteiger

A star at Van Gaal’s old club Bayern, Bastian Schweinsteiger has also been snapped up by the Dutchman at United this summer, and is undoubtedly a world class midfielder capable of playing a variety of different roles.

3) Wayne Rooney

Some compliment here – Wayne Rooney also makes Van Gaal’s top five despite not being quite at the peak of his powers in LVG’s time in Manchester.

4) Luis Figo

World class during his time at Barcelona, Luis Figo was a big player for Van Gaal and is regarded by many as one of the finest of the modern era.

5) Ronald de Boer

Another superb player from Van Gaal’s Barcelona days, Ronald de Boer makes the top five after shining for the United manager at club level and also for the Dutch national team.
