Manchester United & Liverpool combined XI: Three summer signings, but no room for England record-breaker Wayne Rooney

Man Utd and Liverpool combined XI ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash between Manchester United and Liverpool, here’s a combined XI of the two Premier League giants, with no room for the off-form Wayne Rooney

GK: David de Gea (Manchester United)

One of the best goalkeepers in the world, it remains to be seen if David de Gea will play this weekend, but he’s certainly the best ‘keeper at both clubs right now.

DR: Matteo Darmian (Manchester United)

In ahead of Liverpool summer signing Nathaniel Clyne, Mancchester United new-boy Matteo Darmian has had a great start at Old Trafford and looks a great all-round right-back.

DL: Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

A hugely impressive young player, Luke Shaw narrowly gets in ahead of Liverpool starlet Joe Gomez, who will face bigger tests as he goes on this season despite a good start.

DC: Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

A key defender for United these days, Chris Smalling has improved a lot and deserves his place in this combined XI.

DC: Martin Skrtel (Liverpool)

One of Liverpool’s most important and experienced players, Martin Skrtel is the first of the Merseyside giants’ players to make our combined XI.

MC: Morgan Schneiderlin (Manchester United)

A superb summer signing in midfield, there’s no question Morgan Schneiderlin gets into this line up after a fine start to life at Old Trafford.

MC: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

Liverpool’s new captain, Jordan Henderson is a fine all-round midfield player who gets in ahead of the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has been slow to get going this season.

AMR: Memphis Depay (Manchester United)

A terrific young winger, Memphis Depay has really caught the eye since his £30m move to United this summer, and is comfortably in this combined XI.

AML: Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)

One of the best playmakers in the Premier League, Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho would walk into most sides in Europe on his day.

AMC: Juan Mata (Manchester United)

Another world class number ten, United star Juan Mata gets the final attacking midfield spot after scoring three times against Liverpool last season.

FC: Christian Benteke (Liverpool)

With no room for the misifiring Wayne Rooney (despite his England heroics), Christian Benteke gets the striker spot in this team as he looks like a potentially brilliant buy for Liverpool.
