Chelsea player ratings vs Everton: Matic the only positive, Pedro & Fabregas woeful in 3-1 defeat

Chelsea player ratings after Everton game.

A run-through of Chelsea player ratings after yet another defeat this season, this time away to Everton

GK: Asmir Begovic

In for the injured Thibaut Courtois, it’s fair to say Asmir Begovic didn’t do a lot wrong and was let down by some poor Chelsea defending on all three Everton goals. 6.5/10.

DR: Branislav Ivanovic

Poor as he was beaten down his side for the first goal, Branislav Ivanovic had another unconvincing game for Chelsea in this nightmare start to the season. 5/10.

DL: Cesar Azpilicueta

Solid enough on the left-hand side, but Cesar Azpilicueta still didn’t offer enough going forward for the visitors, who looked starved of ideas in attack. 6/10.

DC: John Terry

Given a difficult time by Everton’s pacey and hard-working forwards Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith, it wasn’t the best afternoon for John Terry. 5.5/10.

DC: Kurt Zouma

Decent for Chelsea despite the poor defending in general, youngster Kurt Zouma did his best and will improve with more playing time. 6/10.

MC: Nemanja Matic

With a stunning solo goal to bring Chelsea back into the game, Nemanja Matic was generally strong and commanding for the Blues today, doing all he could despite the bad result. 8/10.

MC: John Obi Mikel

Not good enough for Chelsea any longer, John Obi Mikel did not adequately protect his defence and was taken off early by Jose Mourinho. 5/10.

AMR: Pedro

Ineffective for Chelsea, Pedro was subbed off after an hour after failing to really get into the game. 6/10.

AML: Eden Hazard

One of Chelsea’s more lively attackers, it is still hard to ignore that Eden Hazard does not look nearly as good as he did last season when he won PFA Player of the Year. 6.5/10.

AMC: Cesc Fabregas

Quiet again for Chelsea, it has been a desperately poor start to the season from Cesc Fabregas, who was another big name dragged off by Mourinho after just an hour. 5.5/10.

FC: Diego Costa

Putting himself about as ever, Diego Costa was not wanting for effort, but could not fashion enough opportunities for himself in the way that he did so well last season. 6/10.
