Predicted Tottenham XI vs Sunderland: Spurs to field new summer signing in search for first Premier League victory

Tottenham Hotspur visit Sunderland as the Premier League returns this weekend, with both sides looking for their first victory of the season.

Spurs in particular have been in disappointing form, having won just three points from four games, scoring only three goals.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men therefore need to get their act together quickly after such a slow start, and should be aiming for no less than a win against Sunderland – who are once more expected to be fighting relegation.

Here’s how we think Tottenham will line up on Sunday…

GK – Hugo Lloris

Spurs could perhaps count themselves fortunate that a goalkeeper of such quality is content with missing out on Champions League football.

RB – Kyle Walker

Expect Walker to get forward often against the Black Cats.

CB – Toby Alderweireld

Signed in the summer and looks set to remain first-choice in the heart of the defence alongside Vertonghen.

CB – Jan Vertonghen

The Belgium international is the leader in defence, and looks to have formed a solid partnership with Alderweireld.

LB – Danny Rose

Rose looks to have cemented left-back as his for Spurs, and he should be aiming to get himself in the England squad.

RCM – Nabil Bentaleb

A difficult decision given Bentaleb has been sloppy so far this season. Ryan Mason could pip the Belgian to a starting place, but the latter is certainly the superior midfielder when on top form.

LCM – Eric Dier

The 21-year-old has been handed a new defensive midfield role, and looks to be settling into this position with ease. If his performances continue, he could be close to earning his first call up to the senior England side.

RW – Mousa Dembele

While the midfielder hasn’t really wowed supporters since his arrival, he remains a regular for Pochettino. He is however a doubt for the game with an injury, and could be replaced by Erik Lamela or new signing Clinton N’Jie.

AM – Nacer Chadli

Chadli has looked impressive thus far in the season, and looks to be improving in a Spurs shirt with each game.

LW – Son Heung-min

The South Korea international has been granted international clearance, and with Christian Eriksen sidelined, looks set for his Spurs debut.

ST – Harry Kane

Last season’s star player is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League, with his form disappointing. However, he scored an excellent goal in an England shirt earlier this week, and should be full of confidence ahead of the weekend’s clash.
