Chelsea ‘rival Arsenal for signing of Ligue 1 powerhouse to replace club legend’

Blues step up pursuit of towering Ligue 1 ace.

Chelsea are reportedly stepping up their interest in signing Marseille’s imposing centre-back Nicolas Nkoulou ahead of rivals Arsenal, according to sources in Spain.

The Blues could do with new additions at centre-back this January as they seek to replace declining club legend John Terry, and Nkoulou more than looks the part.

The Cameroon international has long been one of the best defenders in France and indeed Europe, and would be a cheaper alternative to top Chelsea target John Stones, whom Everton fought hard to keep in the summer transfer window.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea are now ready to end their interest in Stones and move for Nkoulou instead, in what looks like a smart move to boost their squad for the second half of the season.
