Louis van Gaal has started to see some of his attacking summer signings deliver in recent weeks with forward Anthony Martial adapting swiftly to life in the Premier League and Memphis Depay picking up his first Premier League goal during Man United’s 3-0 win over Sunderland on the weekend.
However this doesn’t mean van Gaal has finished in this department and is now looking to land Turkish international Calhanoglu to boost his creative midfield options.
The 21-year-old is perhaps best known as a superb set-piece specialist but he offers a lot more besides and it’s no surprise that Europe’s ‘Elite’ are tracking his progress.
It’s likely Man United could out muscle San Siro side AC Milan in a bidding war, the Italian giants having experienced a few lean years, and the Old Trafford board have certainly had no issue backing van Gaal in the transfer market over the past two seasons.
Last term Calhanoglu racked up a dozen goals and provided eight assists to help secure a Champions League berth for 2015/16 and the young talent has already scored five times this term.
