Arsenal chase ‘New Mesut Ozil’ signing: Italian giants also keen on set-piece specialist

Emirates Stadium side target top notch attacking midfielder.

Arsenal are set to battle AC Milan in pursuit of highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu according to talkSPORT.

Over the course of his time at Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen Hakan Calhanoglu has developed a reputation as one of the hottest prospects in European football and has been dubbed the ‘New Mesut Ozil’ and as such it’s perhaps no surprise that Arsene Wenger would be keen on landing the 21-year-old Turkish international.

Sinisa Mihajlovic has placed Calhanoglu at the top of his AC Milan wish-list and this could well spark a January bidding war with Arsenal.

Last term Hakan Calhanoglu scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions and has already netted three times in Champions League action this season and may be a player Bayer Leverkusen struggle to keep hold of if members of Europe’s ‘Elite’ come calling.

Arsenal fans may well prefer Wenger to invest money in the signing of an experienced and able defensive midfielder or a prolific striker ahead of the acquisition of yet another creative midfield talent.
