Liverpool plot move to beat Chelsea in race for £29m teenage sensation

Liverpool have set their sights on FC Porto teenager Ruben Neves as Jurgen Klopp seeks to see off Chelsea interest to lure the Portuguese Under-21 international to Anfield according to the Metro.

The 18-year-old is maturing into a top quality performer and has been compared to Barcelona enforcer Sergio Busquets and could be the ideal player to help beef up Klopp’s Anfield midfield.

Currently Klopp would have to rely upon injury prone Brazilian Lucas Leiva or Welshman Joe Allen to provide some steel in the middle of the park but Neves would offer a long-term option of real quality.

Neves has a £29m buyout clause written into his current contract and though that is a hefty price to pay for the youngster it’s fair to say that such a move could be a calculated risk worth taking, not least as clearly the defensive midfielder would offer sell-on value in years to come.

Neves made 37 appearances in all competitions last season and has continued to make great strides in 2015/16 and Jose Mourinho saw just what the FC Porto starlet is capable of when he played his part in helping the Primeira Liga side to victory over Chelsea in Champions League action earlier this month.
